Villareal – Sevilla Match Comments/Preview

I have not a lot to say about this game. We are in the worst moment of our season thus far, riding a 3-game losing streak, averaging 3 goals allowed per game in that stretch, and with some of our best players injured (you can add Konko to the list, but add Acosta to the available list). Meanwhile, Villarreal are currently “enjoying their football”, as the saying goes, stomping on almost everyone they meet on their way to a very solid 3rd place in Liga and an early qualification to the next round in Europa. To say that I am not optimistic about the game is a vast understatement.

So…yeah. That’s the game. Here we are 1/3 of the way through the season, sitting adrift in 8th place and in danger of falling to 11th with a loss (and some wins below us), but only 5 points out of CL spots. Obviously a win would do wonders for us, but the miracle it might do for our psyche would easily be eclipsed by the miracle we’ll need to win. After the PSG loss it’s a little harder to believe in that old bromide that we play up to the competition, and you have to think Rossi and Nilmar will enjoy the space our CBs give other teams if they don’t feel like defending, which I guess they never do.

On that note…vamos mi Sevilla, right you guys?!?!
