The Antonio Puerta Memorial Player of the Month Award: November

This has been a classic month as far as Sevilla goes: bringing our best play for big games (4-0 and 2-0 wins over Karpaty and Valencia, respectively), and sputtering no-shows against games we apparently feel we should beat easily (the 1-2  and 1-3 home losses to Mallorca and Getafe respectively, and to a lesser extent, a 1-2 victory over a Zaragoza side we probably didn’t deserve to beat). After starting the month brightly (at 4-0 and a GD of +12), we lost our last two and ended the month at 4-2 and managed a net goals for/against of 16-5. When you look at just the numbers, it doesn’t seem like the month was a disaster, exactly. Although, if you look at those numbers from the perspective that we probably should have gone 6-0 (especially if we were going to manage a win at Valencia), well, disaster doesn’t seem like a terrible inaccurate term.

Despite our increasingly frustrating shortcomings, we’ve now faced 2 of our 3 main rivals for CL spots and have come out with a pair of 2-0 victories. So maybe it’s not all bad in the end. Once again, after the jump are November’s results to refresh your memory:

Nov 4: EL4 Sevilla 4 – 0 Karpaty Lviv (Alfaro (2), Cigarini, Negredo)

Nov 7: LL10 Sevilla 2 – 0 Valencia (Negredo, Alfaro)

Nov 10: CdR L2 Sevilla 6 – 1 R. Unión (Rodri, Negredo, Bernardo, Cigarini, Jose Carlos, Acosta)

Nov 14: LL11 Zaragoza 1 – 2 Sevilla (Fabiano, Negredo)

Nov 19: LL12 Sevilla 1 – 2 Mallorca (Fabiano)

Nov 27: LL13 Sevilla 1 – 3 Getafe (Kanouté)

It’s weird not debating the merits of voting for DZ again vs. anyone else on the team since he hardly played all month. Who picked up the slack in his (and Palop’s, and Guarente’s, and Navas’…) absence? Was it someone in the middle of the field (ANYONE??!?)? Maybe you liked Kanoute’s incredible work in the midfield to make our offense click (when it was clicking)? Or maybe you’re smitten with Negredo’s score rate (dude averaged a goal every 105 minutes in November) and that clutch Zaragoza goal? Or Alfaro’s very capable work filling in for the dreamiest eyes (and fastest legs, and brokenest ankles) in Andalucía on the right? In short, you guys, who was POTM in November?
