I think most of us are still giddy at the 4-0 ass whooping we got to enjoy last weekend over our friendly Betico neighbors. It’s worth savoring. We had great showings from a number of players (Reyes, Mbia, Bacca to name a few of many). And we have now climbed up to 8th, just one point off of European spots, where most of us hope and expect to finish the season. Things are looking up.
Additionally, for those of us from the States or who hail from there, our minds have likely drifted away from football and towards turkeys, Pilgrims, and stuffing. And yet, we actually have a game tomorrow!
Not only that, but its a fairly important game. If we beat Estoril, and Liberec fails to beat Freiburg, we will clinch first place in our group with a game to spare. Having that extra game to experiment with the roster, incorporate returning players, and rest regular starters will be a real boon for the team.
However, there is no reason to think that beating Estoril will be easy. Although they are last in our Europa group, they are not yet eliminated (a win over us and a loss or tie by Liberec would leave them a real chace of proegressing). They are also playing well in the Portuguese league, with only Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, and Porto ahead of them. So, they are not to be taken lightly.
With that said, I would be surprised if we didn’t see some team rotation from Emery. I’m a little worried about fatigue, particularly among our internationals such as Rakitic and Mbia.
The game starts at 10am eastern time tomorrow morning. So, I’m hoping to enjoy it with a breakfast bowl of cranberry sauce sitting on my lap.
Cheers. Happy Thanksgiving. And VAAAAMOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
