The season ended, Sevilla has wasted little time getting started on what is sure to be a busy offseason. It’s rumored that yesterday we officially offered Bielsa the head coaching job (we should have an answer in the next couple hours if that’s true), and today we officially announced the signings of Manu del Moral and Trochowski. Trochowski comes from Hamburg on a free transfer and has signed for four seasons with a release clause of 17 million. Manu, meanwhile, comes from Getafe at a cost of 4.5 million euros; he’s signed for 5 seasons with a clause of 20 million. The official site had some glowing prose about each new arrival; click through to learn more.
…is a complete central midfielder who can play on the left and in the middle, and near the box. He’s blessed with many resources and qualities, but if there’s anything that sets him apart it’s his versatility. At 27 years of age he’s played more than 200 games in the Bundesliga in Hamburg, where he’s played after growing up in Bayern Munich’s youth teams. He’s played 36 international games with Germany, having played in the 2008 Euro and the 2010 World Cup.
Manu del Moral:
…is a midfielder and winger who can play as second forward and on the left, as inverted winger and on the right. Brought up in Atletico Madrid, he started in Recre and made a name for himself in Getafe, where he has played in the last 5 seasons 159 games, scoring 36 goals. Without a doubt, he is the classic player that every coach wants, as much for his elegance and effectiveness in the air as for his capacity to play in as many as three distinct zones of the attack.
The club has also provided this helpful and HORRIBLY soundtracked highlights video of the two players (seriously, press mute or risk hating these guys by association with The Offspring for the rest of their time in Sevilla) which for some reason I can’t get to embed; click here to check it out or see it on the above linked article from the official site.
In Monchi’s Men news, the site has seen some minor changes for the offseason. On the left column you will now see lists of players coming and going from the club, with position, team, and cost. We won’t put anything there until it’s confirmed by the club, so it won’t be a great way to keep track of rumors, but hopefully it’ll help us all track the summer’s transfer activity. Additionally, we’ll add any important dates on the left so we know what to be looking forward to over the long summer (only 88 days until the next competitive match!).
I’m pretty excited about the content we’re lining for the offseason; there should be a good combination of very dry, numbers and stats kind of posts and some humorous entries as well. Check back often; we’ll update the site as Monchi and Del Nido do their magic and hopefully have a pretty regular stream of editorial content as well.
What do you think of the signings? Our chances of signing Bielsa? What content would you like to see this summer? Fill up the comments! FILL THEM UP!!!
