Today Sevilla kicks off a fantastic day of La Liga action when they host Valencia. Los Che were Liga leaders until they played out a great 2-2 draw with Barca at mid-week, a game which saw their best XI run like mad (frankly, bossing Barcelona around for the entire first half and a lot of the second) and defender Jonas red carded late. They’ve started the season with a bang, but may be a bit gassed as they make this trip.
Sevilla, meanwhile, is in the opposite situation: they didn’t look particularly convincing in a goalless draw against Osasuna (and frankly are in need of a change in order to consistently create goals or even chances from their solid midfield play), but are also considerably rested; the team that jogged around Navarra wasn’t the strongest team Marcelino can put forward. Medel in particular was missed and will be a key player today both for his duties as a disruptor of Valencia’s impressive attack and for his distribution on counters and slower build play.
Anyway, hopefully Negredo can overcome Soldado in the Pichichi race with a fantastic display, and hopefully Sevilla will come away with a win.
¡A por ellos!
