Incredibly, this is our fourth match in nine days. Read that sentence over again. Today we play at 3pm Central here in the US of A.
Amazingly, of the 270 minutes that the three matches leading up to this one comprised, Negredo and Rakitic have played 270 and 260 minutes respectively. It’s hard to see them out of the lineup once again, though, as Sporting beat us 2-0 in the “ida” earlier this season. We’re going to look to maintain our good form (hey, three non-losses in a row is fine form for us right now) of late as well as continue to be consistent in defense.
In two of our last three matches we’ve kept the clean sheet with Javi Varas in goal. Any brewing controversy at the goalkeeper spot will become clearer tomorrow as Palop has returned to the team after his injury. We’ll see what Mazano chooses to do, but it seems to be the consensus around here that Varas is ready to take over fulltime duties. If this happens Palop will surely receive several curtain calls, but it could turn out to be his final season in goal. Who knows, though? Maybe we’re all wrong. Rodri has also been called up to the senior team after guiding Sevilla Atlético to their latest thrashing of a Segunda B side. The kid has 19 goals this season for our second team, and their recent run of victories (5-1, 1-5, 4-0) is looking to earn him some playing time once again with the elders (srsly, the kid was born in 1990!).
Rodri, we demand more flying karate scissor kick goals in your relative youth!
