Sevilla – Depor Match Summary

Here’s some highlights from today’s draw with Depor. Read Mike’s post in the match comments thread below to hear the thoughts of someone who saw the whole game, but I’ll add that during the last 30 minutes (which I did get to see), and as these highlights show, this was not a situation where we just failed to create or were lost and directionless with the ball. We moved the ball at will pretty much wherever we wanted to put it, and when we got into the final third, we weren’t short of ideas on how to create danger.

At the post-match press conference, Del Nido said that sometimes the ball just doesn’t want to go in, and that certainly seemed like the case today. Not sure why Fabiano didn’t come on until the 75′ after not playing in the last Sevilla match, or for that matter if he could’ve persuaded the ball any better. But I would agree with Mike that Negredo’s movement was really effective and in every way other than scoring he looked great to me.

On the one hand, these are the games we HAVE TO WIN. HAVE TO WIN. We can’t drop points at teams that are happy to tie us. On the other hand, we actually played well today and we didn’t get blanked for lack of ideas or opportunities. And on the third hand (three hands?!?), the rest of the league is starting slow, too, and as we picked up a point instead of losing we’re still sitting in third. Things could be better, but they could be worse.

Anyway, feel free to add your own thoughts in the comments.
