Sevilla is primed to stake their claim to a spot in Europe today when they receive Atlético Madrid in the Ol’ Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán this afternoon/evening. Other results aside, a Sevilla win would put us on even points with Levante, who currently sit in 5th. The team has kept their message straight, though, reminding themselves that it’s results that matter right now and not the table position.
On that note, recent results have steadied an otherwise rocky stretch that began in January. Wins over Osasuna and (most recently and significantly) Valencia have given the players and afición more confidence moving forward. The afición has snatched up all the discounted €10 tickets for this match, and it appears we will have a full house up in Nervión for the first time in some while.
Atléti arrive gimpy with several key players sitting out “tocados”. No Falcao, no Adrián, no Arda. No Negredo on our end, which should give Baba his first start with us if Michel opts to keep the 4-4-2. Perotti continues to fight injury, but Reyes has improved his play since being moved out of the middle to the wing, and the midfield duo of Medel and Rakitic has been finding a rhythm.
Let’s soak ’em for Crutchy! Vamoooooo!
