With 2 games left in the season, Sevilla is in 9th place and yet still very much in the hunt for a Europa League berth. It’d be cool if that meant there was an extra tight race for the last (usually 6th place) ticket to Europe, but mostly it means that La Liga is a shambles of a league. Turns out while we’ve been criticizing Del Nido for our slow descent down the league these last years, he had a plan along: qualify for Europe from any position on the table by being the only team not disqualified for being in financial deep shit. Genius, basically.
But unfortunately that plan hasn’t come to full fruition yet, and there are still a few teams with eligibility. Just a few, mind you, but enough that Sevilla needs a bit of help and needs to win both its remaining games–an away game AND beat Valencia at home next week. That away game comes today against an Osasuna side with its back very much against the relegation wall. Anything less than a win today just isn’t going to do it–let’s see if the team can finally get that elusive second away win.
