After a whirlwind day of franchise shaking news, it turns out the team actually has to play a meaningful football match on Friday. As Del Nido heads to jail, so Sevilla FC must head off to Cantabria to take on Racing Santander in our first match of the Copa del Rey. This is a tournament the team should really try and perform well in. Perhaps our best chance at hardware. Will the team be distracted or extra motivated?
One player who will certainly be extra motivated is Jairo, who recently played for Racing before their fall from grace to the Segunda B. The team has picked up some knocks as well with Rakitic likely to sit out, Vitolo out for a month, Perotti possibly hurt, and the readiness of Marin and Trochowski still in doubt.
I’m hoping we can end this tie before it really starts. We didn’t help ourselves much in Europa by failing to lock in first place, so we won’t get any rest for that match just six days later. So it would be nice to blow this one wide open early, and get some player rotations in.
Will we see Rusescu? Will Perotti come back to boost his winter transfer value? Not sure. To be honest, I’m still trying to wrap my head around all this Del Nido stuff.
