After some time off for a winter break, lets hope the team’s rhythm has not been disrupted. We are on a great streak of results (if not form) in La Liga having taken 16 of our last 18 possible points and winning three consecutive matches in a row (!!!!!!!!). Hopefully we can pick up where we left off. Elche, by contrast, are relegation threatened and may be starting to feel the anxiety of having lost their last four ties in La Liga.
Despite some rumors breezing around Seville, nothing major has happened at this point. And hopefully nothing major does happen, in my humble opinion, besides extending Rakitic’s contract, purchasing Mbia, and loaning out some guys who need playing time (Cicinho and possibly Rabello).
We also benefit from having put in coward clauses, or whatever they’re called, on the Sevilla players currently on loan to Elche (del Moral, Stevanovic, and Botia). I hate that clause. It should be abolished. But it exists, and in this case, we will benefit from them not having their starting CB in Botia.
The team named for the match tomorrow is: Beto, Javi Varas, Coke, Fernando Navarro, Alberto Moreno, Fazio, Nico Pareja, Carriço, M’Bia, Cristóforo, Iborra, Trochowski, Rakitic, Vitolo, Reyes, Marko Marin, Gameiro y Bacca.
Conspicuously absent are Jairo and Perotti. With Pareja and Moreno notable newcomers.
Let’s handle business, finish the first half of the season in style, and put ourselves within a few points of the Champs League (and also appreciate that seven matches ago, that type of optimism might have been laughed at).
Cheers all. Vamos!
