We should be immensely proud of what this team has done in the first half of this season, but things are only getting started.
Falling out of the Copa del Rey is too bad, but I don’t think too many of us are losing much sleep over that. And its likely to be a blessing in disguise so that the team can stay focused, fresh, and healthy for the more important performances in La Liga and Champions League.
One thing to note is that Sevilla have performed very well against the other top teams in La Liga. However, we played all of Atleti, Real Madrid, and Barcelona at home. So we will have even harder return fixtures against them in the second half. And yet, looking at the next tier of challenging fixtures, we played Villareal, Celta Vigo, Eibar, Real Sociedad, and Bilbao all away, meaning that our fixtues with this dangerous set of teams will all be at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. We have a real opportunity to make a run at this.
With that said, our upcoming schedule is going to be very challenging. While all of our coming games are, of course, winnable. They are also all dangerous and complicated. The team needs to stay focused and in top form as we can’t afford inconsistent effort or performance if we want to continue to dream about La Liga. To win La Liga demands that we are flawless.
1/29 Espanyol – Away
2/5 Villareal – Home
2/12 Las Palmas – Away
2/18 Eibar – Home
2/22 Leicester (CL)- Home
2/25 Betis – Away
3/1 Bilbao – Home
Any guesses how many points we take from these Liga matches? I worry about guessing… too nervous I’ll jinx us. Amazing first half. Feeling blessed to have this second half to look forward to. Thank you Monchi! Thank you Sampaoli! Muchas gracias mi Sevilla!
