Since I’m too busy (lazy) to write my own post. I’m just going to copy/paste Niller’s comment from the previous thread and make it a new discussion. The draw is Monday, definitely some teams that would be better to avoid and others that would be just fine:
Possible opponents in the next round:
Ajax, Anzhi, Chornomorets, Dnipro, Dynamo Kiev, Esbjerg, Juventus, Lazio, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Maribor, PAOK, FC Porto, Swansea, Viktoria Plzen.
I think we can all agree that we don’t wanna draw Ajax, Juventus, Porto or Swansea. I’m personally hoping for Esbjerg. They are playing poorly in the danish league, they won’t have much matchform since they are on winterbreak now and most important: it gives me the chance to go see our Sevilla play. It’s just a few hours drive down there, so I’m crossing my fingers!
I might be overrating Sevilla, but I actually think we could take on most of our possible opponents (on a good day). Juventus will be disappointed about playing in Europa League, so they might not play at a 100%. Porto got beaten by Atletico, so that means we can beat them too! Swansea… they might actually be bad, I don’t know. They are being hyped so much here in Denmark, because Michael Laudrup is their coach. I don’t really know how good they are.
Ajax: Christian Poulsen (the reason I started following Sevilla FC back in the days) will play against his old team. Might actually be a quite interesting game!
But… none of this might happen. We will probably end up playing a team like Chornomorets (I have no idea where they are from) and then we will worry if Emery can motivate his players… again.
The draw will be on monday.
