  6. Good training match. A pity Sevilla Atletico has a match vs Getafe tomorrow in Madrid, otherwise I’m sure we would’ve seen more of their players for the A team tonight.

Hopefully by the return leg, we will see more Sev Atl players.

Quick post game thoughts – I thought we half-assed it out there and still ended up winning 5-1 on a brilliant game by Correa. Other than that, I didn’t think there were very many bright spots. We played a really terrible team and we should have scored at least 2 more goals. Correa was patient and clinical on his finishing, the rest of the forwards even Vietto when came on were not clinical at all.

  14. On that performance albeit against what looked like a Sunday pub team. I would pick Correa over Vietto on Saturday, give him a chance to show what he can do. At least he knows where the goal is.

    1. Correa definitely needs a chance vs. Granada. Let’s see if he’s ready to step the game up… if not, bench him in the second half and continue this way until he gets more experience in La Liga after a couple of seasons.

Just after the match I found out that our opponents were from Tercera actually… the 4th tier in Spanish football level. In a competitive match, maybe Sevilla U19 would’ve beaten them lol.

  15. I think we need to play Correa as false 9 and play extra midfielder, that way we will be able to take control of midfield. Playing Vietto as striker is as good as playing no striker. Against Lyon play no striker and take control of midfield, don’t let them have ball, I’m sure we can draw at Lyon. But they have been in good form lately.

  16. I’m also in favour of Correa playing up front. Only watched the 1st half of this game (available on Youtube btw), but him & Kiyo were given license to roam, which made for some interesting combinations.

On the subject of strikers, Sampaoli previously mentioned that we also have Vázquez & Correa who can play as forwards. I’m sure JS wants to use Correa in that role, he just hasn’t shown that he’s capable yet. Hopefully this effortless hattrick inspires him to step up against stronger teams.

  17. Will be an interesting match tomorrow afternoon vs. Granada. Hoping for 3 points of course, though Granada battling to get out of the relegation zone and it will always be tough with bus-parking teams that try to counter now and then.

We are in a good position where any result from the El Classico would benefit us in a way or another. If Barca wins, then we will be tied with them on 30 points in the 3rd place, but only 3 points away from RM, which is very nice. While if RM beats Barca, we would move 3 points ahead of Barca in the second place. If El Classico ends in a draw, we will be 4 points away from RM and 2 points ahead of Barca in the second place.

A win vs. Granada will make the El Classico a better match for Sevillistas.

But in the meantime, there are a lot of rumors for the January transfer window when it comes to reinforcements, especially regarding strikers. When I thought twice about it, I really couldn’t see Correa as a second striker for all the second part of the season, no matter how much he shined vs. the Uber drivers of Formentera, and no matter how well he would eventually do in a match or two… he is simply not cut for a starting role just yet. We might keep Correa and develop him into a better player, as he definitely has a lot of potential.

However, in the January transfer window, it would be ideal to have a striker and a defensive midfielders. There are no rumors of any midfielder as far as I’m aware, but there are many rumors circulating nowadays for the striker spot.

Some of them are: Bacca, Calleri, Pizzi, Raul Jimenez, Teodorczyk and Pratto.

Knowing all these players (except Teodorczyk) and having watched more than 1 matches of them playing before, I’d say that if we cannot get Bacca for any reason, the best option and the clinical finisher that we need (plus Sampaoli likes him a lot as a player reportedly), would be…. Lucas Pratto. Pratto is shining with his current club Atletico Mineiro and he had a starter role in the match between Argentina vs. Colombia for the WC qualifiers. He scored a nice header (assisted from Messi) and played very very well in overall. Remember… he got a starter position before Higuain and Aguero.

What do you guys think? Who should we go for in the January window?

  18. Rico; Pareja, Rami, Mercado; Mariano, Kranevitter, Nzonzi, Vitolo; Mudo, Correa; Vietto.

Away against Granada. I would have given Mariano a break because of his recent injury, but as long as he is ready against Lyon I won’t complain.

I would gladly take a draw today if we just go through against Lyon…
